Comparison and Handover Performance Evaluation of the Macro-mobility Protocol

چکیده
Future internet works will include large numbers of portable devices moving among small, wireless cells. In order to support real-time applications, users demand seamless mobility and Quality-of-Service (QoS) provisioning. The handover technology is one of the most important technologies for the quality of real-time operation which guarantee the QoS of mobile Internet. Mobility management issues are solved by separating macro-mobility (interdomain) generally using Mobile IP and micro-mobility (intra-domain). In recent years, many enhancements for macro-mobility protocols have been proposed, designed and implemented in Mobile IPv6. Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) is one of them that is designed to reduce the amount of signaling required and to improve handover speed for mobile connections. This paper presents a comparative study of the Hierarchical Mobility IPv6 and Mobile IPv6 protocols. The architecture and operation of each protocol is studied and are evaluated based on the QoS parameter: handover latency. The simulation was carried out by using the Network Simulator-2. The first simulation results show that, HMIPv6 performs best under macrodomain mobility compared to MIPv6. The MIPv6 suffers large handover latency. The second simulation results show that the proposed scheme can get better performance in terms of packet loss and handoff delay

Macro/micro-mobility fast handover in hierarchical mobile IPv6
Mobile Internet Protocol version 6 (MIPv6) has been proposed to solve the problem of mobility in the new era of Internet by handling routing of IPv6 packets to mobile nodes that have moved away from their home network. Users will move frequently between networks, as they stay connected to the Internet. Thus, as mobility increases across networks, handovers will significantly impact the quality ...

The architectural evolution from hierarchical to flatter networks creates new challenges such as single points of failure and bottlenecks, non-optimal routing paths, scalability problems, and long handover delays. The cellular networks have been hierarchical so that they are largely built on centralized functions based on which their handover mechanisms have been built. They need to be redesign...

Machine to machine (M2M) communication, which is also known as machine type communication (MTC), is one of the most fascinating parts of mobile communication technology and also an important practical application of the Internet of Things. The main objective of this type of communication, is handling massive heterogeneous devices with low network overheads and high security guarantees. Hence, v...
متن کاملMobility Management in Next Generation Networks: Analysis of Handover in Micro and Macro Mobility Protocols
One of the main issues with Mobile Internet Protocol (MIP) is slow handovers. Mobility protocols are classified as micro or macro depending on the domain of the network. When macro mobility protocols are used in managing localized mobility requirements, they result in slow handovers and delays that result in loss of packets and make these protocols unsuitable for time sensitive applications. Mi...
متن کاملA Fast Handover Protocol for Mobile IPv6 Using Mobility Prediction Mechanism
Mobile IPv6 enables mobile node to roam transparently in any network. It shows good performance for macro mobility but it is not proper for supporting micro mobility because of large latency. Accordingly, IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) mobileip WG(Working Group) suggests Fast Handover Protocol and HMIPv6(Hierarchical Mobile IPv6) for micro mobility management. However, HMIPv6 has some p...
